Are you feeling lonely?

The Challenge Network is the national charity for bringing local people together.  We exist to build trust between people from different ages, incomes and ethnicities. But if there’s one thing worse than being in one group and distrusting another, it’s being in no group at all and distrusting everyone.

That’s why loneliness is a very real worry for us. Increasingly, research shows that it’s becoming a worry for all of us – especially older people. Consider these statistics from the Campaign to End Loneliness:
– 17% of older people only see a friend once a month
– 10% say that they feel “very lonely” or are “always lonely”
– 9% say they feel cut off from society
– 50% say the television is their main company

If we’re serious about connecting people, we need to address this.

But first we need to understand why this is happening – the topic of tomorrow’s blog.
