We are pleased to announce that a team of our young people from Ealing are the regional winners of the vInspired ‘Most Outstanding NCS’ award. The group created the winning campaign during their time on the 2012 programme.

The focus of their campaign was free travel for university students; a topic which the group feel strongly about.

In just a few weeks , the team managed to collect 1,450 signatures on a petition. They then had the opportunity to present the petition to The Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Mohammed Aslam, who was so impressed with their efforts that he invited them to formally present their campaign at a full Council meeting.

The campaign has been officially accepted by Ealing Council, who are now committed to helping the team take it forward to the Mayor of London’s office.

Team leader, Mariana Changalova is ecstatic. She said, “We chose our campaign as we all want to go on to higher education. Some of us want to stay in London, but with university fees and the cost of living increasing, we might not be able to afford it.  Giving free transport to university students would help alleviate part of the financial burden of wanting a good education.”

Councillor Mohammad Aslam said: “I met the team at one of their social action weekends last September.  It is marvellous to see young people so motivated and making the most of their opportunity to engage in local politics.  I wish them every success with their venture.”

Team Ward plan to continue their campaign as part of The Challenge Society and they hope that any publicity generated will inspire other young people to take action about issues they care about.
