Earlier this year, we received funding from Heathrow Community Fund (part of BAA Communities Trust) to enable young people from Hillingdon, Ealing and Hounslow to take part in our programmes. In addition to funding, staff have also played a number of active roles in our summer programme.

Young people were treated to a behind the scenes tour of Heathrow Airport as part of a professional visit, giving them an insight into the operations of one of the busiest airports in the world. The young people had the opportunity to test out the passenger pods at Terminal 5 and also practised their community campaigns before presenting them to a funding panel.

Various staff were also ‘dragons’ on funding pitch panels. Caroline Nicholls (Director of BAA Communities Trust) was a ‘dragon’ and she stated “This is the second year we’ve been able to support The Challenge. A key focus for the Trust and for Heathrow Community Fund is to help local young people develop their potential and raise their aspirations for the future through helping the communities they live in and The Challenge programme is the perfect partner for this. This was also my second year as a dragon and I was very impressed by the young people’s passion and determination to make a difference or take a stand on some really critical issues”.

We are grateful to Heathrow Community Fund for all their support and look forward to developing future projects with them.
