On Wednesday 15th February, graduates joined local councillors, charities and community groups at The View Tube, located near the Olympic Park for the official launch of The Challenge in East London. For the first time this year, 675 school leavers in the boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest will have the opportunity to take part in The Challenge.

The ambassadors kicked off the day by sharing personal testimonies about their experiences on The Challenge programme. The presentations were followed by a panel debate where guests passionately deliberated the legacy of the Olympics for East London residents. Panel members included Eric Van Der Kleij (Chief executive of Tech City UK), Councillor Mark Rusling (Waltham Forest) and Alex Zurita (Projects Officer for Pro-Active East London).

Councillor Mark Rusling stated “I am delighted that The Challenge has launched in East London. We have some enormously talented young people, and I want their talent to take them far. The Challenge gives young people a sense of discipline, ambition and – most importantly – fun. I hope The Challenge sticks around in East London for a long time!”
