Spotlight on local community partners

Over 9000 Challenge participants will carry out social action projects in partnership with our local community partners. The projects will take place in September as part of the ‘Real Challenge’, the final part of The Challenge experience where young people get the chance to volunteer with a community organisation.

This is a great experience for the participants to have before going on to implement their own unique community campaign.

In South London, a group of participants will take part in community regeneration projects with Southwark Circle,a network providing practical support for elderly residents living independently within the borough. 120 young people will also volunteer at the first ever Ealing Half Marathon taking place on Saturday 30th September, providing race support for the 5000 runners taking part.

In Birmingham, a group will partner with Look UK, a local charity that supports parents and carers of children with visual impairments. Young people will spend the day creating a sensory room for children who use the Eye Clinic at Queen Elizabeth hospital in order to make the clinic more inviting for children undergoing surgery.

In Stockport, a number of participants will raise funds and volunteer for Walthew House, a local charity which provides support services for those who are blind, visually impaired or have dual sensory loss.

These are just a few examples of the 100’s of projects taking place this summer and we look forward to reporting the impact of these projects in a later edition.
