It has opened my eyes to different kinds of jobs that I can do, and with lendlease, it is not all construction.

How did you feel when you were put forward for lend-lease?

I felt really good but also nervous. It has opened my eyes to different kinds of jobs that I can do, and with lend-lease, it is not all construction.

Can you describe your experience with your Charity Partner?

Lively! Our leaders helped us and honed our skills, as you know, people our age are noisy and annoying but they really kept at it and helped us put together something in a short period of time.

How would you describe HS Action in 1 word?

Interesting, because I never thought I would be put forward. When I was told I thought it was going to just be the same as everything else but HeadStart offers experience in learning about things you can do in the present and the future

Did you overcome your fears and reach your goals?

Making eye contact was something I was fearful of, I just didn’t do it. Teean helped me overcome that. Before I never used to make eye contact with people but now I can and know the importance of it. I focus more and I have improved my confidence skills so much.

Would you recommend it?

Definitely, I’ve already recommended it if I’m honest. It’s good to have these opportunities when you are young so you know what you may want to do when you’re older. I’ve already told my cousin as she is a bit lost as to what she wants to do.

Did you find the HeadStart: Action workshops in preparation for the interview helpful? Is there anything we could improve on to help prepare you for the interview?

Yes, because Teean gave us a good acronym to remember and great pointers. Small things like drinking water and pausing before answering. I don’t think I’m ready for a real-life interview but I am getting there.

How did you find the interview process?

Stressful because I was worried. But when I got there, I was ready as the questions were things that I had prepared so I know I answered to the best of my ability.

What advice would you give to someone going into your position?

Be calm and open, communicate well. That goes a long way for someone, it opens yourself up and gives you more of a chance to be ready for these interviews. Being open means you get to be your true self in an interview.
