Samuel, HeadStart Action
Read Samuel’s HeadStart Action story
How did you feel when you were put forward for HeadStart Action?
I felt happy that the school recognised that I was a good person and was good enough to do it.
Can you describe your time with Football Beyond Borders?
It was really fun! I really enjoyed it. The play was the best part, and I learned how to be a better leader.
How would you describe your HeadStart Action experience in one word?
Why is that?
I feel like now that I’ve done it, I know how to present myself for when I want a job. It’s really helped me understand how to do that.
Did you overcome your fears and reach your goals?
Before I started I was nervous about the time commitment and nervous I would get tired of doing [HeadStart Action]. It surprised me because I really enjoyed it. My goal was to get the work experience. I want insight about what a job is and what I need to do and be to be successful in a job.
Would you recommend HeadStart Action?
Yes. It gives you an insight into what life is about and how to put yourself out there.
Did you find the HeadStart Action workshops in preparation for the interview helpful? Is there anything we could have improved on to help prepare you for the interview?
Yes, the workshops were helpful. I learned how to project my voice and focus on 1 thing when I’m speaking and answering questions. Going into the interview I was really nervous but I felt a lot better once it started!
It would be really helpful to have additional sessions on how to do an interview along with a practice interview. And maybe more feedback on what to expect!
