HeadStart Action Impact Report 2018/2019
The HeadStart Action pilot programme, which took place in Southwark between 2017-2019, has come to an end with resounding impact results. 81 young people across three Southwark schools graduated the programme, exceeding our target. This report focuses on the incredible impact of our pilot programme.

HeadStart Action is a geographically and demographically focused personal and social development programme targeted at young people who are at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment, or training), and require greater support to access these areas. The programme was designed by The Challenge in partnership with The Mayor of London and Lendlease (a leading global construction company) in 2017, supporting young people in the London borough of Southwark.
- 79% of young people who took part in the programme were considered ‘job ready’, or, ready to enter the world of employment.
- Teacher’s felt that 100% of involved young peoples attitudes towards school improved as a result of taking part in HeadStart Action.
- 100% of the participants felt more prepared for further education, training, or employment.
- By the end of the programme, 81% of programme participants felt they could make a difference in their community (a 35% increase from the start of the programme).

To measure the impact of the pilot programme we gathered participant referral information from teachers, conducted individual 1:1 needs assessments with each participant, surveyed the participants at the start, middle and end of the programme as well as gathered teacher evaluation surveys and student progress surveys.
