We are looking for a hands-on, personable financial manager to oversee all financial aspects of our UK operations.  This role requires strong commercial acumen, analytical rigour and relationship management.  This is a fantastic opportunity to join an entrepreneurial and innovative organisation, grow in a dynamic and supportive environment and contribute to an exciting programme for social change.

About the opportunity

We are a fast-growing, multi-site organisation, working with a variety of partners and engaging a range of external services.  This setting calls for financial management that is disciplined yet practical and nimble.  It also represents a great opportunity for a financial manager able to bring this balance and grow with the organisation.

The UK Financial Controller is responsible for all aspects of financial management for the charity’s operations across the UK, with estimated revenue of c£10m in 2010/11. These include:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process
  • Preparation of quarterly and annual financial management accounts
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts, including cash flow forecast
  • Supervision of payments and payroll processing
  • Preparation of report reconciling payments to bank account
  • Management of relationship with banks, insurers and auditors
  • Maintain and enhance all necessary financial controls and policies 
  • Oversee all company sectretarial and charity governance activities 

About you

We are looking for exceptional candidates with the following experience and characteristics:


  • ACMA/ACCA/ACA qualified
  • Experience using SAGE accounting software
  • Hands-on financial management experience, including financial and management reporting
  • Experience leading financial management within a dynamic, fast growing environment
  • Experience leading financial management in a  multi-site operation
  • A track record demonstrating a combination of commercial acumen, analytical rigour and attention to detail
  • Personal and non-bureaucratic approach for managing internal and external relationships
  • Interest in building stronger communities and seeing change in society


  • Experience in company-wide (as opposed to only departmental) financial management (strongly preferred)
  • Experience working with community groups or volunteering
  • Keen for rapid progression as the charity grows, with scope for  significant commercial and people management responsibilities

Further details

  • This is a permanent, full-time role based in London and starting in October 2010.
  • Salary for the role is £35k per year.  We also offer a stakeholder pension, a Cycle to Work scheme and opportunities for flexible working.
