About the opportunity

One of the greatest challenges in delivering a large-scale programme is accessing the necessary service and infrastructural capacity at sufficient volume and quality.  This role exists to ensure we succeed on this front.  You will lead a year-round team for procurement and manage a dedicated logistics team for delivery through the summer programme itself.  This is an opportunity to lead procurement within the youth and community sector at an unprecedented scale.

The Programme Procurement Manager’s primary responsibilities are:

  • Procure and manage provision of Residential Accommodation with sufficient capacity for 6,500 places in 2011.
  • Commission and contract for provision of Presentation Skills days around the UK
  • Procure and manage provision of Minibuses and Coaches across the UK.
  • Oversee and manage delivery of logistics for Team Challenge programme during the summer.

About you

We are looking for exceptional candidates with the following experience and characteristics:


  • Experience managing complex programmes and projects under pressure with a track record of delivery on time and in budget.  Able to remain calm in these situations.
  • Experience purchasing and negotiating contracts with potential providers
  • Experience managing teams of staff in stressful environments
  • Experience working with young people – good understanding of likely challenges and what works well.
  • Track record of resolving challenging problems faced by organisations (this could include overseeing significant organisational growth, working with new audiences, redesigning systems or programmes)
  • Interest in building stronger communities and seeing change in society
  • Thrives in a fast moving and ever changing environment.  Highly flexible.


  • Experience designing and delivering programmes for young people.
  • Experience working with community groups or volunteering

Further details

  • This is a permanent, full time role based in London, starting in October 2010.
  • Salary for the role is in the range of £25k-30 per year, with more potentially available for an exceptional candidate.  We also offer a stakeholder pension, a Cycle to Work scheme and opportunities for flexible working.
