About the opportunity

This manager will lead a team of 6-12 interns and associates to excite young people, inform parents and help both through a detailed application and assignment process to undertake The Challenge programme.  It represents a great opportunity to expand people leadership skills and to bring creativity to a marketing and sales approach that is still in development.

The Regional Marketing Manager’s primary responsibilities are:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with local authority education managers and school head teachers to introduce The Challenge to all schools in your defined geography
  • Establish relationships with link teachers and introduce Marketing Interns (your direct reports) into those relationships
  • Manage 6-10 field marketing and sales staff through a sustained annual campaign
  • Manage the marketing and sales process for your geography, tracking progress ensuring quality
  • Working with the National Marketing Manager, adapt processes, tools and techniques based on local conditions and progress toward targets
  • Work with the National Marketing Manager, compose template communications including letters, emails and texts to be sent to teachers, parents and young people at different stages of the engagement process.
  • Secure the sign-up, assignment and turn-up of the full contingent of participants for all of your geography’s Challenge waves in the summer
  • Analyse data from the marketing and sales process and make adjustments to activities and approach as necessary

About you

We are looking for exceptional candidates with the following experience and characteristics:


  • Successful experience managing and motivating colleagues
  • An energetic, enthusiastic and persuasive personality
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in group and individual settings and gravitas with senior audiences.
  • Ability to build rapport with young people (16-year-olds)
  • Experience managing a complex process successfully
  • Excellent written communication skills, and understanding of various stakeholders’ priority interests
  • Flexibility, persistence and resilience to thrive in a fast-paced, result-oriented environment
  • Ability to interpret data and generate practical actions to influence specific metrics


  • Business development experience
  • Experience working with teenagers
  • Sales and marketing experience
  • Analytical Skills and Excel expertise to determine and produce useful statistical data

Further details

  • We have three full time, permanent roles based in London, the West Midlands and Northwest England, starting in October 2010.
  • Salary for the role is £23k per year, with a £3k supplement for London.  We also offer a stakeholder pension, a Cycle to Work scheme and opportunities for flexible working.
