Role summaries

Programmes Manager

You may well start by playing a Team Leader role in one of this summer’s programmes, to see The Challenge ‘from the inside’.  You’ll then lead the creation and launch of up to 8 local Challenge programmes.  The role requires a rare combination of strengths in logistics management, relationship building, communication and a passion for young people, change and community.  When the summer comes, you’ll manage the delivery of the programmes you’ve created, working with 120 paid and voluntary staff to do so.

You’ll get started by providing logistic support to one of this summer’s programmes. From September, you’ll then work with the Programmes manager to prepare and launch a new set of Challenge programmes next summer.  And come the summer, you’ll help make those programmes happen.  You need to be a focused yet energetic individual with a passion for seeing young people change their communities, with a very strong academic record (including a 2.1 or 1st from a respected university), experience of leadership and experience of working with groups of young people.  This role presents the opportunity of becoming Programme Managers within 1 or 2 years.

Marketing Intern

You will introduce The Challenge to young people in your area: finding, selecting and placing local 16-year-olds into The Challenge’s local programmes.  Ideally you’ll play a team mentor role this summer so you really know what you’re talking about! You’ll need impressive communications skills and the ability to build rapport quickly, which you’ll use with diverse audiences – students, parents and teachers.  You’ll also need perseverance to help young people and their parents through the application process and keep them engaged right up until the start of their programme.  Successful interns are eligible to apply for ongoing Marketing Associate roles.
