London Alumni Manager

We are looking for energetic and organised colleagues who are passionate about young people making a difference in their community. We are looking for new members for our team who will take responsibility for encouraging and supporting 1500 young people in London to access community and volunteering opportunities during this summer. The role requires a rare combination of strengths in logistics, relationship building, youth work and practical judgement. Our Programmes

The Challenge is our summer youth programme that brings together sixteen year olds from across the country and challenges them to connect with people from different backgrounds, learn key skills for the workplace, and make a difference in their community. The Challenge Society encourages and supports the graduates from The Challenge to continue involvement in their community through events and signposting.

About the opportunity

The London Summer Alumni Manager is a key summer delivery role within The Challenge Network. The Alumni Managers is responsible for ensuring young people in London who have completed The Challenge in 2011 are offered ongoing community opportunities during the summer. They will need to set up a small number of events, source and advertise multiple ongoing opportunities and manage a team of 1 full-time and multiple part-time staff as they promote these opportunities.

Set up three high quality, locally grounded summer community events
• Work with local community organisations to prepare three large events where young people can make a difference
• Ensure partners manage event planning including liaising with venue providers and equipment

Source volunteering and community opportunities
• Work with TCN’s network to find potential opportunities
• Assess opportunities and ensure they meet TCN’s objectives of mixing young people with others from different backgrounds

Promote opportunities
• Identify appropriate opportunities for the right alumni
• Manage team of one full-time and multiple part-time staff to call, email, text, facebook alumni to assess interest and connect them with opportunities

About you

We are looking for exceptional candidates with the following experience and characteristics:
• Event Management and Logistics: Success in managing delivery of projects on time
• People Management: Experience managing and motivating people in challenging environments (e.g., residential youth programmes, fast-paced workplace)
• Youthwork experience: Experience working with groups of young people (in voluntary or paid capacity). Good judgement on how to manage difficult behavioural situations.
• People skills: Ability to give very good first impression and form good relationships with partners
• Character: Strikingly positive attitude and integrity. Interest in building stronger communities and seeing change in society

Please note: The Challenge is a fulfilling but demanding place to work. Weekend and evening working will be required when events require.

The salary for this role is £32,000 pro rata.
