We are looking for engaging, outgoing, committed interns to join our graduate programme. About the opportunity

As a Marketing Intern, you will represent The Challenge with schools, young people and parents.  The Marketing Intern ensures that a full and diverse set of young people take advantage of our unique programme. The role requires a rare combination of strengths in public presentation, one-to-one communication and attention to process detail.  Successful interns may also be offered summer programme roles to co-ordinate the delivery of participant teams’ social action projects through to September. Exceptional interns may then become Associates either in the Marketing, Staffing or Programmes team from October onwards.

The Marketing Intern’s primary responsibilities are:

  • Maintain relationships with designated teachers in partner schools
  • Build awareness of and excitement about The Challenge among Year 11 students at partner schools and youth clubs through assemblies, focus groups and other events
  • Assist applicants and their parents throughout the process from application to the start of the programme, through parents’ evenings, written communications and telephone conversations
  • Manage the pre-programme relationship with participants and maintain their commitment to take part

About you

We are looking for exceptional candidates with the following experience and characteristics:

Essential:

  • Strong public communication skills and comfort presenting persuasively to large groups.
  • Excellent written communication skills to engage effectively and efficiently with teachers
  • Strong one-to-one communication skills and maturity to handle conversations with teachers, parents and young people
  • An ability to relate very effectively with teenagers from a variety of backgrounds and a comfort with expressing infectious energy and enthusiasm
  • Persistence to overcome barriers and push through alternative options to ensure the effectiveness of any school visit
  • Perseverance, confidence and resilience to drive and assist many young people and parents through a detailed application and registration process
  • Attention to detail and great organisation to manage multiple activities and relationships at once

Beneficial:

  • Experience in the English secondary school system
  • Experience working with teenagers
  • Sales experience

Further details

  • This is a fixed term role based in London or the West Midlands, starting in January 2011 and continuing until the end of July 2011.  Opportunities for Associate roles exist for strong interns.
  • Salary for the role is £900 per month, with a £100 supplement for London.  Successful interns become associates after one year, and this year our Associates are paid £19k per year, with a £2k supplement for London.  We also offer a stakeholder pension, a Cycle to Work scheme and opportunities for flexible working.
