About the opportunity

The Assistant Programme Manager will support the Programme Manager to deliver in two main areas:

Help design and prepare for The Challenge Programmes

  • Identify and build strong relationships with a variety of partners from the local community, local authority and business
  • Work with local communities to prepare ways in which participants can work with them
  • Support the Programme planning for example transport, food and accommodation
  • Support staff recruitment for the delivery of the Programme

Help oversee the delivery of The Challenge Programme

  • Oversee the logistics throughout the delivery of the Programme e.g. liaise with community partners and venue providers and coordinate coach and minibus transport
  • Manage a small team of staff throughout the summer to ensure the smooth running of the summer programme
  • Support the Programme Manager as required

About you

We are looking for exceptional candidates with the following experience and characteristics:

Essential

  • Experience of working directly with groups of young people (in a voluntary or paid capacity)
  • Experience of working in a fast paced and demanding environment
  • Willingness to develop people management skills
  • Experience managing projects in a paid or voluntary setting e.g.  managing youth programmes or complex events
  • Interest in building stronger communities and seeing change in society
  • A strong academic record (including a 2.1 or 1st from a good university) or relevant equivalent experience.

  • People management experience
  • Experience of working with 15/16 year olds
  • Experience of working in a residential environment (e.g. youth camp, activity centre or expedition)
  • Experience of managing or motivating groups of people in stressful environments (in a paid or voluntary capacity)
  • Willingness to further develop project management skills
  • Experience working with diverse community groups

Further details

  • We have fixed term (January through October) roles based in The West Midlands and in Greater Manchester.  There are opportunities for other, permanent roles at the end of this fixed term.
  • Salary for the role is £12,600-16,000 per year, depending on which of the three positions you are hired for.  (One of the West Midlands positions involves significantly more people leadership responsibility and is therefore paid more than the others.)  This salary includes payment for 6 work days per week during the 10 weeks of our summer programme itself.
