    NCS with The Challenge is an intense programme for 15-17 year olds from different backgrounds, designed to develop key skills and inspire young people to take on more active roles in their communities. We also run a year-round programme that connects graduates of the programme to a network of on-going events and activities.

    About the Opportunity

    The Programme Manager is a key delivery role within The Challenge. Programme Managers are responsible for managing a team of core staff who are responsible for setting up and delivering NCS with The Challenge in one geographical area

    The Programme Manager’s key responsibilities are: 

    –       Prepare and deliver multiple high quality and locally grounded NCS with The Challenge programme  
    Oversee the Set up of Community Projects: Manage a staff team to ensure the setup of projects where young people can make a difference to their local community

    –       Oversee the Management of Logistics: Manage logistics planning including liaising with transport providers, food delivery and accommodation

    –       Select and Train Summer Staff: Support staff recruitment for the delivery of the Programme, manage training events for other staff

    –       Oversee the delivery of an entire cluster of NCS with The Challenge programmes

    –       Oversee the logistics throughout the delivery of multiple programmes e.g. liaise with community partners and venue providers and coordinate coach and minibus transport

    –       Support and manage multiple staff teams during the summer/autumn/spring ensuring all runs smoothly

    –       Line manage Programme Associates and Assistant Programme Managers. Ensure their personal development and oversee PDP process.

    –       Line manage delivery Programme Leaders, Practitioners, Logs Officers and Residential Mentors during delivery

    We are looking for new members of our programmes team who will play a key role in supporting our programmes. The role requires a rare combination of strengths in logistics, relationship building, youth work, community development and practical judgement.

    About the role

    NCS with The Challenge, is a programme for 15-17 year olds from different backgrounds, designed to develop key skills and inspire young people to take on more active roles in their communities. We also run a year-round programme that connects graduates of the programme to a network of on-going events and activities.

    The Assistant Programme Manager with Programme Leader Responsibilities (APM/PL) will work with a Programme Manager to prepare and deliver the NCS with The Challenge programme within a specific geographic area.

    The APM/PL’s primary responsibilities will be to:

    • Prepare a high quality and locally grounded NCS with The Challenge Programme.
    • Set up community projects: work with local community organisations to prepare projects where young people can make a difference
    • Plan logistics: manage logistics planning including liaising with transport providers, food delivery and accommodation
    • Select and train delivery staff: support staff recruitment for the delivery of the Programme and support training events for other staff
    • Promote ongoing opportunities by engaging NCS grads in a range of activities year round.
    • Be responsible for both the overall running of the programme and management of seasonal staff. During delivery of two, three week programmes you will:
    • Act as the face of the programme to all staff and participants
    • Manage twelve staff throughout the programme to ensure the highest quality facilitation and pastoral care for all participants
    • Provide support for the development of staff
    • Manage timings and processes of the staff team to ensure the programme runs to schedule
    • Work closely with logistical staff to ensure effective delivery of the summer programme
    • Live residentially during the NCS Personal Challenge and NCS Team Challenge.

    During programme delivery, residential working will be required for 4 blocks of 4 days. Meals and accommodation are provided during this time. The accommodation during the NCS Personal Challenge is generally in an outdoor activity centre and during the NCS Team Challenge is generally at a university campus; however, in some areas and during some parts of the programme, accommodation is at a campsite.

    The DAPM/ZAPM’s primary responsibilities will be to:

    • ·Support the delivery of our NCS with The Challenge programme
    • Oversee the logistics throughout the delivery of the programme e.g. liaise with community partners, venue providers, transportation and residential providers
    • Inform and manage our seasonal staff in the day to day delivery of the programme
    • Support community organisations to prepare projects where young people can make a difference
    • Manage programme administration including petty cash, attendance recording, risk management and data protection
    • Motivate and inspire young people, staff and our partners to strengthen their community

    About the role

    The Programme Administrator will be responsible for a variety of logistical and administrative tasks, and equipment management that assists and supports the Programmes Team in the delivery of the NCS Programme.

    The Programme Administrator primary responsibilities will be to:

    • ·Remotely liaise with staff to ensure incidents are reported in our database
    • ·Remotely liaise with staff to support them through the food ordering process for the Team Challenge phase of the Programme
    • ·Liaise with outdoor centres prior to kick-off to organise final logistics and programme adjustments
    • ·Support the Programmes team in preparing for the various sections of the programme, including equipment prep, administrative tasks and resource printing.
    • ·Oversee the logistics of retention of medical forms, registers and evaluation surveys

    • You should be at least AAT qualified or similar seeking to further your career within Finance;
    • You should have management accounting experience and be able to interpret and comment on management account & a budget statement;

    • You should be able to develop constructive working relationships with department and budget holders in a manner they understand;

    We are looking for an energetic and creative people leader to drive our sales efforts to enrol young people on Step Forward. The role requires a combination of strengths in people, account, and process management.     An opportunity to lead a training team in a fast-paced and growing apprenticeship programme.

    Step Forward is an innovative apprenticeship programme for 18 year olds, designed and run by The Challenge. From thousands of applicants, we carefully select hundreds of the most able and eager. We prepare them for professional work, and provide day-release training over the next 12 months.  Once in role, we provide the young people with ongoing mentoring and support.     The opportunity for the Business & Administration Training Manager

    We aim to become the first choice career option for 18 year-olds looking to enter the workplace, and to make that happen, we need to develop a programme that challenges our participants to becoming highly employable 19 year-olds.  In September 2015, over 70 school leavers will be starting their Level 3 Business & Administration Apprenticeship with us. 

    As the Business & Administration Training Manager you will be responsible for the quality of all training and assessment of Business & Administration.  You will lead a team in the delivery of the programme, support and develop them as assessors.

    As well as managing the team, you will also deliver some classroom based training, and carry out some work-based assessments.

    About you

    You will be exciting by the prospect of working on an educational pilot programme that is scaling up.  You have experience of managing people and giving developmental feedback after observing training. You will also have experience of managing projects to a tight deadline, and be able to allocate resources to achieve multiple aims. 

    You will have a track record of delivering good or outstanding classroom teaching from either vocational training or school based teaching experience.  You will be motivated by the idea of creating a high quality programme that makes a difference for its participants. 

    You will be familiar with Business & Administration qualifications and have practical work experience of working in a business context.  You will ideally have the experience and qualifications to assess the Level 3 Business & Administration qualification.  Candidates without assessor experience, but with outstanding teaching experience, will also be considered. 

    You will be able to demonstrate your ability to create innovative curriculum, and develop a scheme of work. 

    You qualifications

    • Level 4 (or higher) qualification in a business related subject
    • Training qualification (PTLLS, QTS etc)

    • A1 Assessor Award, or equivalent
    • Level 4 qualification (or higher) in a Childcare related qualification

    The opportunity for the IT Assessor

    We aim to become the first choice career option for 18 year-olds looking to enter the workplace, and to make that happen, we need to develop a programme that challenges our participants to becoming highly employable 19 year-olds.  In September 2015, around 50 school leavers will start the level 3 apprenticeship in “Social Media” and “IT Software, Web and Telecoms”. 

    You will work with the IT Tutor to assess all associates on our new Social Media and IT Software, Web, Telecoms courses.  You will work closely with the tutor to ensure that the leaners are being set appropriate assignments.  You will carry out work-based observations, and give direct feedback based on the learner’s individual needs.

    About you

    You will be a qualified IT Assessor.  In particular, you will have assessed the level 3 IT Software, Web and Telecoms apprenticeship before, and ideally the level 3 Social Media course.  You will have some practical work experience in an IT environment.  You will have a high attention to detail and a meticulous approach to planning out your time. 

    Your qualifications

    • A1 Assessor Award, or equivalent
    • Level 4 qualification (or higher) in an IT related qualification.

    The opportunity for the Accounting & Business Tutor

    We aim to become the first choice career option for 18 year-olds looking to enter the workplace, and to make that happen, we need to develop a programme that challenges our participants into becoming highly employable 19 year-olds.  In September 2015, over 90 school leavers will be starting our level 3 qualification, in either Accounting or Business & Administration.

    As an Accounting & Business Tutor, you will be responsible for running training in Accounting and Business & Administration; you will also be responsible for the Accounting assessment.  You will work closely with the B&A training manager to ensure that the training is appropriate.  You will also work closely with the Accounting IQA in ensuring that the assessment is compliant.

    About you

    You will be an experienced classroom tutor, with a track record of good or outstanding lessons. You will have experience in delivering and assessing the Level 3 AAT Accounting Diploma and will have appropriate business work experience.  The ideal candidate will also have experience of delivering the level 3 Business & Administration apprenticeship.    

    You will have an innovative approach to developing training material, and will be excited by working on a pilot programme.  You will be comfortable in working as part of a team of tutors and assessors to deliver a qualification, but are also able to take ownership of individual sections.

    Your qualifications

    • A1 Assessor Award, or equivalent
    • Training qualification (PTLLS, QTS etc)
    • Level 4 Accounting Qualification (AAT or equivalent)

    The opportunity for a Mentor

    We aim to become the first choice career option for 18 year-olds looking to enter the workplace, and to make that happen, we need to develop a programme that challenges our participants to becoming highly employable 19 year-olds.  In September 2015, around 160 associates will be starting their apprenticeship with us.

    As a mentor you will be responsible for supporting around 35 associates and employers during the programme.  Associates can find starting a new job confusing, your job is to reassure and give guidance and additional help where needed.  Employers won’t always know what to expect from school leavers, and might not know how to best work with their associate, your job is to give advice and ensure they get the most out of the programme.

    You will also run a fortnightly professional development training session for a group of around 17 associates.

    About you

    You will comfortable in talking to people from all walks of life.  You will have experience of providing support to young people in a 1-2-1 setting, but you will also be comfortable developing professional relationships with managers in the private sector.  You will have experience of delivering group training activities.

    You will be very organised and able to structure your time effectively.  You will need to be comfortable with liaising with our tutors and assessors in order to support the associates through the qualification.  You will need to be comfortable in giving motivational and developmental feedback to your mentees when needed.

    The opportunity for the Senior Training Manager

    We aim to become the first choice career option for 18 year-olds looking to enter the workplace, and to make that happen, we need to develop a programme that challenges our participants to becoming highly employable 19 year-olds.  In September 2015, around 160 school leavers will become the second cohort of Step Forward.

    As the Senior Training Manager, you will manage a team of 7 trainers and assessors, this team will continue to grow year-on-year as we scale-up our programme to have a national footprint.  You will be personally responsible with the overall quality of the training with the goal of making Step Forward an Outstanding provider within 2-3 years.

    You will also be responsible for ensuring that all qualifications are compliant with national funding rules and meet the requirements of the awarding bodies.

    About you

    You will be known as an excellent teacher, people will be keen to learn from you and the way in which you teach.  You will have a record of success in helping others to teach better.  You are comfortable in the development of schemes of work, and therefore able to oversee the development of our long-term planning.  You are also able to make innovative changes to support curricula if there are problems.

    You will be an experienced manager and are able to motivate and support a team to achieve challenging targets.

    You will have a high level of attention to detail, and are able to design and implement logical processes for business critical operations.  You will have experience of managing external relationships in a professional manner. 

    The outstanding candidate will have a strong knowledge of apprenticeship delivery, assessment and internal quality assurance.

    You will have some relevant work experience that you use to ground your teaching, and enhance the quality of learning.
